Debra Ann Northern

Milwaukee, WI, USA

My name is Debra Northern and I started writing poetry as of this year. I submitted two of my poems to a poetry contest and they were accepted and published by The National Library of Poetry which was truly and honor for me. I work for a Janitorial service that does contract cleaning of which I am their Administrative Assistant. I like to write abut things that inspire me and that I see existing in the world. My goal one day is to have a book of my poems published. I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends.

Visualization

To see a wave of flowing water
Rise above the sea
Makes one think how strong
Brotherhood could be...
If we could focus on humanity
To see a wave of flowing water
Rise above the sea
Makes one think how beautiful
Unity could be
As the force of the water
Gives power to uplift
What a nation we would be...
I f oneness were to exist

My Child

There are so many things I want to do
But my life is on hold now
There are so many places I want to go
But my life is on hold now
There are so many goals I would like to achieve
But my life is on hold now
For I have a child, and that child comes first
When you have a child
Your needs and wants are put on hold
For that's what parenthood is all about
Patience to smile when I could cry
Acceptance of you with all my heart and soul
Tolerance when at times you feel what's the point
Indebted to you for life
Encouraging you to always keep the faith
Now and then I wonder will you love your child
As much as I love you
Comforting to know a child's love accepts you unconditionally
Especially when without you my life would be unfulfilled

Defeat

When I see that I may be discouraged
That feeling we all get that's so familiar
I think back on all the misfortunes
That I have conquered
Day by Day
Eliminating all negativity in my life
Fighting to keep my vitality
Emotion overwhelms me sometimes
Only to revive my perception
That failure will not exhilarate in my future...
