Clifton Tobin

Stonebridge, UK

My name is Clifton Sylvester Tobin. I was born in Jamaica 20/5/1945 as one of six children. My parents are Abraham and Mildred Tobin. I attended elementary school from the age of seven to the age of sixteen after which I joined my mother who has since immigrated to England. What I wanted then was to further my education but my mother didn't have the resources and the opportunity didn't come so I sought and found employment as a hospital porter. I then moved on to Huffman Pressing which is my present career. I was first drawn into poetry when I started reading the Bible and came across the songs of Solomon and was later greatly inspired by that late great poet Mr. Burns.

The Drinking Mans Theme

I slept in the lawn last night
I open my eyes at dawn and behold the heaven above
with the sky so blue and the grass carpeted
the earth green beneath my shoe
my face I bath in sparkling trickling water
then I remember yes I remember yesterday
it was the day I decided to wash my sorrows away
with strong spirits beckoning
my soul come away come away.

I Take Each Day As It Comes

The night time the moon the day time the sun
I take each day as it comes ain't asking for
Much don't want to own the world long as I'm
Happy got bread on my table some one to love
Me comfort and cheer me when ever I get lonely
I ain't' the one to make a fun for me there'll be no
Rush the night time the moon the day time the sun
I take each day as it comes
