I'm a retired senior citizen living in East Quogue most of my life; Now on a fixed income after serving in the Air Force during World War II for over 4 years. I started writing poetry over seas during the last months of the war; have had my poems published in local news paper, Hampton Chronicle, and National Library of Poetry. I love vegetable gardening fishing and golf. Writing poetry helps me express my feelings with, love, sentimentality, and happiness of the present and past times gone by when we were young and it seemed the world was less complicated. I'm married with 3 children and 7 grandchildren who I dearly love. |
Here's to young seniors, whose adult life just begun,The living with heartaches, sorrow, joy and fun. It's the planning and saving and making things do, It's the happiness of living after you've been blue. It's a world full of love to seek it out, For there's someone for everyone that's without a doubt. Life is what you make it for the living ahead, Be careful how you plan it or you'll wish you were dead. There's people of all types who play life's game, Some run very wild and others are very tame. Whatever the type person there's always a good reason, Whether it's a moon, stars, fall or any season. To sum it all up and have the most joy with living, You've got to have blissfulness and need to keep giving. | Heavy HeartWhen your heart feels awful heavy and your mind from trouble not. There's always someone who loves you and loves you a great lot, When the smile is for real and the earrings are in place, That's the time you look lovely and would win in any race, When you're hurting on the inside and things seem to fall apart, You make believe on the outside but just can't get a fresh start. Yes, an aching heart is something no doctor can ever mend, And many a beautiful heart will always twist and bend, But when the telephone rings or the right person says, "Hi" The joyful feeling you get and it ends with a happy sigh, The heart begins to sing and with a real smile on your face, The world is nice and bright and everything falls into place. | Thank YouMy heart felt thanks to you is made of many special things,The warmth and happiness your valued friendship brings, The little things you do to me, that mean so very much, The way we are especially close and always keep in touch. My heart felt thanks to you is for things I cannot chart or measure, Just knowing you had brought me joy and hours of untold pleasure, The way you look with a real happy smile, The sparkling eyes like diamonds, make me want to stay a while. You are a special and loveable friend who grows more dear, With every birthday and every glorious year. | MemoriesOh for the memories of yesterday and days gone by,Of heartaches and sorrow and loves that die. The joy and laughter and tears of goodbye, The thoughtfulness and kindness that money can't buy. The dreaming at night of being held by two arms, The sudden waking with a star, finding you are charmed. The smiling and thinking of two minds as one, The happiness and pleasure through strife and fun. Life in the beginning is a wonder to behold, But the memories at the end increase a hundred fold. I often wonder if that great man high up above Keeps track of all our thoughts, our heartaches and our loves. |
