SanDiego, California, USA

I have spent nearly my entire life in San Diego, California. I attended school here and graduated from San Diego State University. I met my wife, Judi, at college. We have been married for fifty-five years, have two children, and three grandchildren.I served in the army in World War II and Korea. I was employed by the County of San Diego for thirty years and retired in 1975.Judi and I play lots of golf and travel frequently. The purpose of my poetry is to amuse and entertain my readers.

The Best Of The Years

My childhood was a great delight,
In fact, it was pure dynamite.
My teenage years were filled with joy,
There were the girls - I was a boy.
My middle years - beyond compare,
A pretty wife - three children fair.
And as I reached maturity,
All things kept going well for me.
And now retirement with my wife,
We have a pleasant, happy life,
With family and friends galore,
I really couldn't ask for more.
But as I sit in pensive thought,
And wonder what my life has wrought,
Which were the best of all the years,
With mostly smiles and fewest tears?
My vote to old age, I must give,
Considering the alternative!

The Obituary Column

The obituary column
is a must for me to read.
My obsession with this column
is quite strange I will concede.
I wouldn't miss the evening news
without checking every name.
And skip it even for one day,
would really be a shame.
My reading of this long, long list
must be totally complete.
If my name's not on the sheet,
one more day the devil I cheat!

A Thought For Tomorrow

A thought is running through my mind.
It comes back more and more.
Profound, enlightened, erudite -
It makes my spirit soar.
I knew I had to write this poem,
The thought was surely there.
A jewel racing through my brain -
A diamond solitaire.
A thought of such great magnitude,
Should not be soon forgot.
And so I have to write it down,
And grab it while it's hot!
But I don't have the time to write,
A poem that would be great.
So I'll just say the simple words -
"Do not procrastinate!"
