Beth has been writing poetry since she was in her late teens. She is a Licensed Physical Therapist who works with stroke victims at Akron General Hospital. She is an active member of her church, and an avid gardener. Beth has had her poetry published in local newspapers, and by The National Library of Poetry. She has also published one collection of poetry entitled, Eyes of the Beholder, and is now completing a manuscript that she plans to dedicate to her husband and two children. Beth says, "Writing poetry helps me focus on the precious and beautiful things in life."

Beauty

Children are like flowers
Each different
And perfect in their own way.
How to decide
Which is more beautiful--
The champion rose
Lips pursed awaiting its debut
Or gangly daisy
Arms outstretched toward the sun
Each have their unique charm.
Do not compare
Flowers or children
But treasure each
For what it is
A miracle of God.

Scribblings

More than a sentence,
Less than a story:
A child’s hug,
A stranger’s glance,
A wordless squeeze of my hand,
Whispered endearments
In the belly of night
More than a stanza,
Less than a song
These scribblings
In the margins of my life.

Why? she said, and made me ask
The question that she did not grasp
I struggled, pondering answers deep
Long after she was fast asleep
Why not? she asked, and made me doubt
Just what my life was all about
The trust and frankness in her eyes
Would not permit a compromise
I knew she looked to me as guide
To navigate uncertain tide
So I looked deep into my mind
To see what wisdom I could find
Eternal truths I could impart
To feed her growing mind and heart
But, alas, I am not as wise
As her fledgling mind would surmise
But I believe I’ve found the key:
I learn from her as she from me.
