What Poetry Is

by Grzegorz Krawiec

At the thought your soul alights
Strange fires sparkle in your eyes
Words that kindle your heart
Like logs glowing in the dark
At times it bleeds with bitterness
Painting your days blue
And then so sweet it becomes
Pure honey, gold and true
Tender like mother's tired hands
Wipes out mistakes of long ago
Come drift in the waters serene
Little kids lost in the fog green
It's hope when there is none
Courage when days are gray
It heals the wounds you thought
Forever are here to stay
It comes and goes with time
Commanding love or sacrifice
Takes you hostage at times
It is like . . . politics
Light as a feather, like wind it's free
Like a gambler cheats you at the table
Seduces you with fantasies
Is it in you or is it in me?
