The Magic Of Love

by Salvatore Buttaci

The magic you brew awakens me
to a love far from the mystery that men
with stronger hearts than mine have hunted
down through the mazes of fleeting time.
You stir the bubbling cauldron of our love,
toss in the sparkling of our star-struck eyes,
smudges of late-night kisses upon which we feast.
Within the deep forest, away from scoffing
cynics, we play effortlessly at love,
our murmurings in rhythm with the night.
I watch your long-fingered hands wave the air
till steam wreathes your head like an angel's halo
and from sweet lips your magic words tremble.
The power of love binds us; it matters little
whose arms, whose lips, whose heart are yours or mine;
still I brace myself for love's magic to end.
I close my eyes, afraid of losing you,
and, waking from this forest dream, be sad,
but when my eyes bravely open in that moonlight,
you are still forever in my arms.
