Port Townsend

by Jason Joseph Wheeler

i lie on my back and swallow centuries of her glorious mist
sat atop the shoulders of an angel with her
hair streaming long
and sang the sun to sleep
while the wind hummed along
\sparkling dreams danced above me
as the western world began to slide into sleep
\i can still hear the crackling of the yellow and blue flames
i can still feel the smooth sand slide away at my bare toes
i can still remember the way
oh, just the way it felt
to sing songs with strangers on the beach
deep, deep into the night
enchanting, heaven?
