Howl in the Night

by Ryan Phillip Quandt

The dark and dreary moon, hovers so high
Watching the victims of the night
It's eerie texture and anonymous voice
Can be seen and heard even through most noise
And as it looks down from its peak
The moon mocks as men filter home, like small leaks
And continues howling in the dark
In the woods the sound is dreadful
For you can hear it mock loudly
It echoes through the woods
In the social regions of the world, though
None do notice the mocking jeers
For their lives are clouded by other, "greater", fears
And they do not take into account the moon
Even though it sees them in the night
Even though the sun has taken away the bright
It howls at them
The moon wants to let them know
Darkness has come to reign on high
Darkness has finally defeated the bright
But men choose to lay down their fears
Creep into the covers and lay next to their dears
Ignoring the laughing, the howl in the night
For they believe in the morning it will nevertheless be bright
