His Last Letter

by Frankie M. Harris

Like an animal in the night, he went his way,
Searching out enemies he must slay.
Fighting for his country he gave his life,
Struggling to hold on with all his might.
\Remembering the sound of gun shots, bombs being dropped,
Seeing faces of children, hearing cries that wouldn't stop.
Friends who died quick, those who died slow,
Agony he suffered noone but God knows.
\Years of reaching out, hoping to show others the way,
Preparing to depart, knowing he didn't come to stay.
Talked about, rejected, left all alone,
Heard a voice calling, it's time to come home.
\Not much time remaining took out a pen,
Scribbled five short lines just before the end.
Happy birthday, Going to see Mama & Daddy was message sent.
Special line,Tell the people they need to repent.
