In my whole life I never once dreamed
about the too-sweet confection of a
scalloped-edged, melt-in-your-mouth,
wedding-cake dress.
Instead I floated though a fantasy of
barefoot linen;
we would invite your friend the ocean
and my friend the wind
and, with fingers tightly tangled,
raise our cheeks for the
congratulatory kiss from
both of the guests.
