Auburn Diminishes

by Jacob "Sufferance" Bowen

Leaves fall and clutter surroundings.
All the while, seasons pounding.
One fades while another betrays.
Winter is taking my autumn away.

Foliage becoming more barren,
The question becomes when.
How long before beauty is stripped?
And I'm left with land beaten as if whipped.

When will auburn turn to white?
When will bitter cold possess the night?
When will my favorite season pass?
Too quickly, too promptly, as it always has.

Winter is bland in my estimation,
When color has gone into hibernation.
Spring will bring color blooming.
But, my precious bloody auburn is 6 months looming.

I revel in what my senses allow.
Beautiful view and perpetually aroused.
For, I am merely a victim of circumstance
My precious Autumn leaving is not left to chance.

Inevitability leaving unfortunately,
Why does my beloved season escape me.
History is repetitive and redundant.
My gorgeous Fall leaving is punishment.

Soon, very soon, winter will arrive.
Moods, attitudes, and human spirits rarely thrive.
Grim and gloomy and a marker of change.
My gorgeous view will leave me deranged.

Bewilderment at the lack of color
Precious Autumn has left, for something duller.
Visual sensations a thing of the past.
Time and time again, my elusive autumn has passed.
