Returning

by Isabel Jimenez

the ravens always gather
like berry-tipped trees,
or leaves on the impromptu eaves
backlit by sunset and evening grievances
whitewashed, no camera
to capture their seething
flutter

lamps their ruddy gold eyes would make
they are demons with legs for days

but this is not a self-description
for what that they are, they know not
