Guardians of Time

by Christopher Rei Anderson

Snaking into the earth
Hungry for the life essence
Drawing upon the nectar
Of centuries past

As day turns to night, and back
Fingers reach toward the sun
Absorbing, converting, using
Perpetually consuming

Since the dawn of time
Fire, flood, drought, man
They survive in peace
As their children fall

Ready to begin their own journey
Pulling the succulent dew
Drinking in the light
And becoming ancient

The guardians of time
Stand fast through it all
In silent contemplation
Of ages past, tomorrow.
