Am I Happy?

I just felt an unusual emotion wash over me
Unlike most things that overwhelm my psyche
This couldn’t possibly be…
Am I happy?
I haven’t been that in so long
The feeling that I belong
Something other than misery
Am I happy?
Not since I first fell in love
Have I had this feeling of
Being completely free
Am I happy?
I used to believe happiness came from commitment
Something borrowed, something spent
Until one day you ran out of currency
Am I happy?
For once I can actually breathe in the air
Let it fill up my lungs and refuse to care
Whether or not you’re watching me
Am I happy?
All my life I only found solace in the arms of another
Finding myself in the warm embrace of a lover
But that wasn’t a true reality
Am I happy?
It was a distraction from my inner distortion
For so long I believed you could just run
From the problems I refused to see
Am I happy?
But now since I have been alone
My true colors have shown
I have accepted and accepted the real me
I am happy.

You trace a path so many travel and come to the destination so many never reach. Because they do not understand. Your are, in a word, priceless - you are worth more than any material thing on this earth. Coming to terms with that, and realizing that everyone else, also, is priceless...leads to love of oneself, love of mankind, love of purity, kindness, tangible and intangible beauty. Continual happiness!

I have experienced exactly the same; welcome to the club. Inner richness and freedom starts with doing what is good for yourself. Mostly others distract us from that.

I am sure you have not experienced it yet. most people are addicted to the approval of others instead of approval of themselves
