Change Your Ways

I have been part of a system that practices execution,
There is no forgiveness only revenge and restitution,
You can complete your sentence and do your time,
You will never stop paying for your crime,
Do your time and finish your sentence,
You will never be accepted, no matter your repentance,
Do I sound bitter or full of hate,
I am only trying to tell you what does wait,
You see this 'system' exists because of me,
If I did not break the law it would not have to be,
If you want someone upon whom to place the blame,
You need look no farther than your very own name,
So while you sit in your cell watching days pass by,
You can come out of this better all you must do is try,
It will not be easy actually it is quite tough,
Ask Jesus for his help it will be more than enough,
Our choices are few we must change our ways,
Or end up here for the passing of days.

written to fellow inmates while I was in prison. everyone always seemed to be there because someone else messed up, just tried to keep it real.

I have found that many time good people make bad choices. I also know that there are many who get away and don't get caught. Don't give up...keep inspiring. There are second chances....it isn't over till you are no more. Keep the faith my friend!!

this poem speacks the truth, but it will take more than a poem to change people is way. if only poem had that power that as soon people reads the message it immediately changes them...

This has to be written by someone who has felt the hardness of a jail cell bunk and awoke at 4:30am "Med call!". Writing is an inmates best friend. Good job.
