Are we there yet?

Draw back the roof, open the sky
Hear the hungry children cry
Through starving eyes only they see
A life immersed in poverty

Surviving just through endless days
A witness to how life decays
The clearest view of fate so glum
Shows terror of how they'll succumb

Within misery of their demise
Waste efforts not dispersing flies
Sit staring in a crumpled heap
And daydream of falling asleep

Our efforts first to help them cope
Provide belief and give them hope
This journey shall not be in vain
A time awaits of ending pain
