The Poppy Field- Part I

Eyes of living onyx stare my soul into sleep.
Petals of silken blood blanket my body with dreams
And leave only the ash of my waking days.
My dead adoration it doth keep
Until it is again reborn
After an eternal delay.

Bestow upon me life then take it away.
Promise me love and steal my conscience.
To Thanatos and Aphrodite I must pray
If I long for peace in death and love.

A field painted red
Upon which I lie.
No breath have I
Yet I am not dead
And ne’er is the field my last goodbye.

My meadow is burning
With the evil of mankind.
For a deadly powder created by man
In vain my flowers must die.

Bestow upon me life then take it away.
Promise me love and steal my conscience.
To Thanatos and Aphrodite I must pray
If I long for peace in death and love.

I wonder about the "evil of mankind." I like the first line about the onyx staring your soul into sleep. I really like it; love and death are truly inseparable.
