FEAR

Overwhelmed with fear are my eyes
Because they must see

Voluntarily or involuntarily

Cold murders during wars

Gender based violence and poverty

Gun shots and all the atrocities of the world

Watch dirty films and nude pictures publicly exposed

As I learn immorality from such at my tender age

Yes, they fear but they must see

Overwhelmed with fear are my ears

Because they must hear

Listening to complaints and nagging

All kinds of insults from my enemies

Negative talks, rumours and gossips

Some facts while some baseless and senseless

Excess noise from the factories and machines

This might deafen me

Receive threats and warnings

And even misleading advices

Yes, they fear but they must hear

Overwhelmed is my nose

            Because it must smell

The stench of the skunk

Odour from the sewages, polluted water bodies

And stinking dumpsites

Oh! It must inhale

All the toxic gases, dust and smoke in the air

Emitted from the factories

And some from public cigarette smoking

As this causes lung and liver diseases

Yes, it fears but it must smell

Overwhelmed is my mouth

Because it must eat, talk and drink

Eating various types of food and taking drinks

            Some expired or poisoned

And this might cause death or stomach problems

Others like sweets, chocolates and biscuits

This might cause tooth decay

Taking alcoholic drinks

            That cause hallucinations and diseases

Eating fast, sugary and fatty foods

Containing high level of glucose and cholesterol

Causing heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes

Tempted to tell lies and throw insults at times

Yes, it fears but it must eat, talk and drink

Overwhelmed is my heart

Because it has to love

At times broken and betrayed

Carrying heavy burdens and stress

Persevering and never giving up during hard times

But it has to forgive

In fear of suffering from attacks

And other related diseases

Yes, it fears but it has to love and persevere

Overwhelmed with fear are my legs and hands

Because they must walk, hold and touch

With legs forced to fit on undersized shoes

Thus causing blisters

Afraid of athlete’s foot

When they step on dusts, jiggers attack them

And they even crack

Bear feet are also exposed to sharp objects like needles, nails and thorns

My hands are at risk too they greet everybody

Failure to wash them after these acts

And then you eat, be sure of stomach ache, typhoid or cholera

Hands hold hot objects thus they get burnt

Yes, they fear but they must perform these duties

My whole being fears but it has no choice

But do what it fears doing coz of fear!

An excellent portrayal of existence in the real world; survival despite the odds.
