survivors they are

Survivors they are
those men coated in black
haven outlived all afflictions
inflicted not just by man
but by nature itself.

everywhere around the world
they have survived
dwelled in places hot and  cold
like the sahara or the artic,
enduring both the dry and stormy times,
yet they live.

way back into slavery abducted
by those who claim to be superior,
on numerous soils
they have toiled
and miners they once were,
still they live to see today.

ruled by men themselves unruly
men retarsed by their powers
and not judged by their own introspections.
men inflicting more pain
than nature would ever,
depriving them of all that makes living worthwhile.
beneath trees and rocks they dwell
ragamuffins they are
and dry corns they feed on
and yet they inure.

all they have toiled  for
dried out by drought or
swamped by the torrential rains,
yet multitudes of them
I still see flock the  world.

surely not  born to languish
but what a faith they have chosen
and it they live by.
no one but Africans I address
for they were born survivors
and this they shall forever be.
