To my Child

My child,
Come close to me, give me your ear.
I have been running all my life,
Running from time.
Now I can run no more,
It has caught up with me.

Life is not what they say is,
It is not hard nor is it easy.
It is what you make it to be,
How you handle what it throws at you.

I have seen you rise from the cot,
I have seen you in your weakest,
I been there in your happiest times
We have quarreled, we have hugged,
But what I can say is that you have handled life well my child,
Seeing who you have becomes
Puts happiness in my soul and tears of joy run on my aged cheeks.

The world can be cruel
You would wish to get out of it,
But hold on my child,
Night doesn’t last for long,
The sun always rises.
Choose your friends wisely,
Few are real but most are there for their own good,
Stand on both your feet, don’t be swayed.

Be kind and humble to all,
You don’t know who will help you,
When you need it.
Always help when you can.
Always forgive.
And learn to forget, it is for your own good.
Ask for forgiveness, no matter how small the err.
It’s for the good of all.

Do not loose faith.
Believe in what you have always believe in,
Don’t let go.
It will be of help when you are at a low
Keep those you love in your heart,
It’s the only place they can live forever,
And hope,
Always hope, my child
