When I was young and dreams were new,
I loved a girl who was just like you.
\I saw her face in a mountain stream.
as I sat there lost in that lovely dream.
\But we were young and those dreams were new,
as we threw away a love we once knew.
\We parted strangers though less and free,
to set our hearts to wonder aimlessly.
\But I confess that now and then,
I think of her remembering when.
\If I were young and dreams still new,
I'd love a girl who is much like you.
\I'd hold her close if she'd agree,
to love, perhaps, a boy like me.
