Your Feet In My Shoes

by Laurie Lynn Rosine

You called on Thursday wanting to have lunch and talk
Within minutes I became nervous, unable to walk
Not for certain where this would go
With lunch on Saturday, Id finally know
I picked you up, you chose breakfast instead
No food on my mind, just thoughts in my head
A wonderful day, just you and me
No mention of what your trouble might be
While driving home the air became thick
My heart was racing, my being felt sick
You began to speak without raising your head
I was not prepared for the words that you said
I looked at you sitting so still in your seat
Through my tears I saw my shoes on your feet
Now 17 years later with your feet in my shoes
You, as did I will make it through
Your child will be born in early September
As your mother I beg you to always remember
A child is a gift like no other you've had
Don't just live as a father.....Love as a DAD
